Business Activities:
Produce fresh agricultural cash crops and sells to retailers and general public.
Challenges/Needs:
When the owner visited Sedfa, Masutha Farming was faced with the following challenges:
• Lack of funding
• Had operational issues and wasn’t trading properly
• The business had fewer customers and needed assistance with exposure to the market.
• The owner lacked skills and knowledge to develop a comprehensive business plan.
Intervention Insights and Results
Intervention Details:
An assessment of the business was conducted, and the following recommendations were made and implemented:
• Sedfa developed a business plan and forwarded the application for funding to Nyda.
• To address the challenge of lack of exposure to the market, arrangements were provided for the client to attend market linkage seminars and workshops facilitated by the local Sedfa office and its stakeholders namely, the Department of Agriculture, Dti, Gteda , Leda Mopani District Municipality.
• Masutha Farming was also assisted with the design and print of promotional marketing materials such as directional signage, car magnetic stickers, brochures, etc.
• It was recommended that the business be part of SECP coaching programme for a period of nine months with the objective of addressing its operational issues.

Outcome Details:
The following outcomes were a result of the interventions that were implemented:
• Masutha Farming started attracting several customers and the demand has increased significantly. Some of their major customers include Johannesburg Fresh Produce Market, Tswane Green Market, Spar Tzaneen, Spar Modjadjiskloof, Spar Giyani, Boxer Ga-Kgapane.
• An amount of R100 000 was approved by NYDA which was utilised to purchase farm implements such as fertilizer spreader soilmaster, boomsprayer, heavy duty slasher, hammermill, etc.
• The business ‘s annual turnover increased by 9% from R384 717 to R418 239.
• The number of employees increased from sixteen (16) to fifty (50), including the owner.
