Business Activities: It manufactures cleaning chemicals such as pine gel, dish washer, floor polish, stay soft, tile cleaner, engine cleaner and car wash liquid.
Challenges/Needs: When the owner visited Sedfa, Mawasha Chemicals was faced with the following challenges: • They were an unknown brand and only a few people were aware of their existence. • The business needed proper financial management systems to manage its cash flow.

Intervention Insights and Results

Intervention Details: An assessment of the business was conducted, and the following recommendations were made and implemented:
• The client was assisted with product labelling and barcoding to ensure that they appeal to the potential market. The barcoding assists the business to penetrate formal markets and for ease of administration.
• The business was also assisted with promotional materials to help with marketing i.e advertising boards, banners, business cards, flyers, stickers, etc
• The client was also recommended to attend several exhibition events to assist with business networking with key players in the chemical industry. During the process the client managed to meet associations, academic representatives, other SMMEs in the same industry and suppliers. These events include Tzaneen Agric Expo, Rand Easter Show, Durban Indaba, Sedfa vs Mopani District Municipality Pop-up markets and Marula Festival, where sales were made and contacts established.
• A Point of Sales system was installed for the client to assist with stock management, daily sales, reconciliations and general sales admin.

Outcome Details: The following outcomes were a result of the interventions that were implemented:
• The marketing helped the business to attract new clients including few institutions such as schools and municipalities.
• The point of sales system has aided with proper management of stock.
• Its annual turnover has increased by 19% from R2 093 911 to R2 498 481.
• The number of employees has risen from ten to fourteen, including the owner.
