Business Dynamics and Challenges
Business Activities:
Mixed Farming: Piggery and Poultry Farming; Vegetable farmers
Challenges/Needs:
Prior to SEDFA intervention, the cooperative faced several operational and
compliance-related challenges. These included limited access to properly
prepared financial statements, lack of formal tax compliance, and logistical
constraints that affected the transportation of livestock, feed, and farm produce to
markets. The absence of a dedicated vehicle restricted market access and
increased operational inefficiencies.
Additionally, the cooperative required structured financial systems to improve
governance, credibility, and sustainability, particularly to position itself for growth
and future funding opportunities.
Intervention Insights and Results
Intervention Details:
In early 2025, SEDFA provided non-financial support to the cooperative under
Project Reference NCPIX588, assisting with the preparation of Annual Financial
Statements and ensuring tax compliance. This intervention strengthened the
cooperative’s governance, improved financial management, and enhanced
credibility with stakeholders.
Following the improvement in compliance and governance, the cooperative was
approved for an Isuzu bakkie under SEDFA’s Cooperative Development Support
Programme (CSDP). The vehicle has since been successfully delivered to the client.
The bakkie is intended to support operational activities, including transportation
of livestock, feed, farming inputs, and produce to markets. SEDFA is currently in the process of arranging branding for the vehicle, which will further enhance the
cooperative’s visibility and professional image.

Outcome Details:
The impact of SEDFA’s intervention has been significant and measurable. The
cooperative experienced strong financial growth, with cash sales increasing from
R15 118.00 in May 2025 to R48 000.00 in September 2025. Net profit improved
substantially from R774.00 to R35 229.00 over the same period.
The availability of compliant financial statements and tax clearance improved
internal decision-making and positioned the cooperative for sustainable growth.
The delivery of the Isuzu bakkie has enhanced operational efficiency, reduced
transportation challenges, and expanded access to markets. The cooperative is
now better positioned to scale its piggery operations, diversify income streams,
and strengthen its contribution to local economic development.
