Goodies Supermarket (Pty) Ltd is a wholly black women-owned business enterprise founded and registered by Ms. Nokulunga Gratitude Skosana. Goodies Supermarket is based in Mhluzi (Tokologo Section), in Middelburg, under the local municipality of Steve Tshwete. The business operates as a retail mini supermarket providing a quick, convenient purchases for the local community of Mhluzi. The establishment of the business, Goodies Supermarket, was fully funded by Sedfa through the Asset Assist Support programme and where the business was supported with a fully modified container, complete with shelving, stock, money safe, Point of Sale system, kitchen equipment and branding of the container.
The business trading permit from the local municipality and the Certificate of Acceptability from the district municipality are all in place.
Challenges/Needs:
1. Lack of capital required to establish and operate her small township-based business.
Client lacked capital investment required to establish, start and operate her small township-based mini-supermarket tuck-shop business and realised her business objectives.
2. Limited market access to help support the owner’s business growth objectives.
Sustainability of any business largely depends on its ability to attract customers and generate sales (revenue). Goodies Supermarket, as a newly established tuck-shop business, lacked market visibility and presence to draw clients.
Intervention Insights and Results
Intervention Details:
1. Access to Funding.
Sedfa, through Sedfa Assist Support Programme, assisted the business with financial support to acquire a fully modified container, complete with shelving, start-up stock, money safe, Point of Sale system and kitchen equipment for selling prepared fast food.
2. Access to Market.
Sedfa, through its various access to market intervention support programmes, the business was assisted with Branding, including signage to help create the business brand awareness, drive the business market share to support the business growth objectives.

Outcome Details:
Following Sedfa’s intervention support, the business was able to:
✓ Start its operation, providing quick and convenient purchases for the local community,
✓ Generate business revenue to the value of R182 800.00 (as at the Improvement Assessment date).
✓ Created three (3) new job opportunities for the local community, including the company director, Ms. N. G. Skosana.
