Challenges/Needs: At the beginning, the business experienced challenges with lack of access to funding for growth. The co-operative needed new machinery and equipment, more animal feed and transportation to stop outsourcing when taking their product to the market. This negatively impacted on their ability to access to new markets where they can sell larger volumes on a regular basis and improve their profitability.

Intervention Insights and Results

Intervention Details: The business owners approached SEDFA Mangaung branch for assistance. An assessment was conducted, and an action plan was developed. Sedfa assisted the client with a CDSP application to the value of R1,800,000 to acquire a truck, farm implements and animal feed
Outcome Details: The SEDFA intervention assisted the co-operative. The co-operative accessed funding through CDSP grant to the value of R1,8 million from SEDFA. The grant was used to purchase new truck, farm implements and animal feed. This assisted the business to be more efficient and profitable. The business could access market with ease because they were no longer outsourcing transport. The co-operative coutput capacity increased substantially due to new machinery acquired. Business monthly turnover improved from R81,633 p/m to R96,608 p/m, and the co-operative sustained 10 jobs in the process
